IKONS
View
this Collection
My love of icons began early in my life. My dad was a career officer in the army and we traveled to and lived in Europe for many years. We always visited the museums, cathedrals and libraries in any city we traveled. to. I was very drawn to the sacred art. The history, tradition and a certain ritual of iconography is what draws me to this art. The common thread that I love in studying iconography is the reverence that is always given to the Subject, and the time tested tradition and process that has remained the same over the centuries.

Banners & Antependiums
View
this Collection
Because of my fine arts education background,
I was drawn to working with the Art & Environment committee at my Parish. I began creating antependiums and processional and fixed banners for my community of faith.
From my work in my own community, I began receiving commissions from the Diocese and also from other communities of prayer to create
site specific fabric art.
These images are representative of work that was completed from 1991 to 2003 and does not include all of the projects. Again, I did not understand the importance of keeping a good record of my work.

Stations of the Cross
View
this Collection
The Stations were created for Christ the King Catholic Church in Southaven Mississippi and were installed in February 2007. The Stations measure 24 x 24 and encircle the Worship Space along the outside perimeter walls.
There are a total of 15, and are based on the spirituality of Pope John Paul II who sought to make the Way of the Cross more scripturally based.
This was the final tier to a three tiered, three year project for this worship community.
Included in this collection is 5 of the 15 Stations. If you are interested in viewing the entire collection, you may contact me and I will make them available for your viewing.

Abstracts & Panels
View
this Collection
When I finished my final project in 2007, I began painting images of aerial
views of wellsites used by my husband in his consulting business as a petroleum
engineer. You will find these in the Amazon and Runge panels.
I also began playing with texture and buying just about anything at my art supply store that looked like fun. I continue to create small pieces and to see where they want to go.
This was my first effort post-Stations at working quickly and with large brushes on canvas or a rigid substrate, and with no pre-conceived idea of what the final piece would like like.

City Scapes

A friend of mine, Natalie Alikhan, is a wonderful photographer. She captured some great images of downtown Houston. What follows is our collaboration, inspired by her keen eye for composition and her accomplished photographic skills. Most of the panels are painted in oil on canvas unless otherwise noted.
Welcome to Houston!

Figurative
View
this Collection
I love painting the human face and usually paint from photographs of people either I,
or a friend, have taken. However, a number of the images in this
collection are from live model sittings.
When a painting is not working, I will sometimes
go back in to it and begin collaging over it, thus adding more layers, color
and texture to create more visual interest.
You will see both approaches employed in this collection.
